Ischia<\/b>, with its six municipalities, is by far the largest of the islands in the Gulf<\/b>; once connected to the mainland, it actually has morphological and volcanic features similar to those of the adjacent Campi Flegrei.<\/p>

Called the “Green Island<\/b>” for its abundant vegetation, favored by the fertility of the soil and the always mild climate, Ischia is dominated by Mount Epomeo, an extinct volcano, and dotted with numerous minor craters, active in prehistoric times. Traces of the ancient volcanic origin remain today in the numerous thermal springs and fumaroles, found near the coasts and on the seabed.
